Out of 1 Million, One: A Small Business Leader Reflects on Mineral’s 1 Million Client Milestone
By Garret Olsen
At the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo (SLO) County, my team of 30 works hard to feed more than 31,000 of our food-insecure neighbors in in San Luis Obispo, California. Because they’re a small team with a big mission, most of us wear a lot of hats—myself included. In addition to being the full-time CEO, I’m also our part-time IT department and maintenance department.
One role that I can’t fulfill part-time though is leading our HR department—which is why I am so thankful for the Mineral Platform™ and the efficiencies and professionalism it brings to the work that I do for the organization. It benefits our entire team, and helps me create something that many of our employees reference almost every day, certainly every week: Our employee handbook. I’m humble enough to admit that before Mineral®, we did not have a very good handbook; but now we have a robust, professional, customized, and legally anchored employee handbook. I’m thankful that Mineral keeps its finger on the pulse of changes in employment law here in California—which happen frequently—because it’s daunting to think about trying to stay ahead on my own.
Without Mineral, I wouldn’t sleep as well at night because I’d be on my own to give my employees the benefits they need, deserve, and are legally entitled to. I rest much easier knowing Mineral is my partner in making sure that happens.
